Overview Pepzol Capsule is a prescription medicine that is used for the short-term treatment of ulcers in the upper part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcer). This medicine helps by reducing the level of acid in the stomach. Pepzol Capsule is also used for the short-term treatment of stomach ulcer.

Overview

Pepzol Capsuleis a prescription medicine that is used for the short-term treatment ofulcersin the upper part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcer). This medicine works bypreventingthe amount of acid production in the stomach by blocking the organic enzyme system. This medicine helps by reducing the level of acid in the stomach. Pepzol Capsule is also used for the short-term treatment of stomach ulcer, to treatheartburnandindigestioncaused byGERD, for the short-term treatment of inflammation of the food pipe, for the long-term treatment of overproduction of gastric acid (Zollinger-Ellisonsyndrome), for the long-term treatment ofcancerof the endocrine gland, and for the long-term treatment of increase in the number of mast cells in the body (systemicmastocytosis).

Pepzol Capsule may also be used along with other medicines in the treatment of certain conditions as recommended by the doctor. It is used withClarithromycin, orAmoxicillinto treatulcersin the upper part of the small intestine called as duodenal ulcers. It is also used together withClarithromycin, orMetronidazoleto remove Helicobacter pylori bacteria which leads to stomachulcers.

How to use

Read the directions on the product label, patient guide, ormedicineguide provided by the medicine company or your pharmacist before starting to usePepzol Capsule. If you have any questions related to this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Consume this medicine as recommended by your doctor.

Pepzol Capsuleis consumed 1 hour before food. Swallow the Pepzol capsules whole. Do not chew or crush the capsules. Pepzol Capsule is consumed usually in the morning.

Typical Dosage

The typical dose of Pepzol is 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. The usual dose for children is 5-20 mg once daily (for inflammation of the food pipe (erosive esophagitis) and acid reflux (gastroesophageal reflux disease). This medicine is typically used for a period of 8 weeks forulcersin the upper part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcer), 8 weeks for stomach ulcers, and 4 weeks for digestive disorder in which stomach acid flows back into the food pipe (gastroesophageal reflux disease). It takes 1-2 hours for this medicine to start to work. This medicine is not known to be habit-forming.

This medicine should be used on anas-needed basis. Pepzol may be prescribed for the long-term treatment of conditions such as excessive production of stomach acid (Zollinger-EllisonSyndrome).

If using the delayed-release form of thismedicine, do not crush or chew the medicine, unless indicated on the package. Crushing or chewing of the medicine can result in unpleasant taste resulting in patients not following the medicine schedule. Crushing or chewing can also release all of the medicine at once, resulting in a decrease of effectiveness and a possible increase in side-effects.

If using the liquid form of thismedicine, measure the dose using the provided measuring cup, spoon, or dropper. Before pouring the medicine into the measuring device, you should check the measurement markings carefully. Then, pour the dose amount into the device. After use, clean and store the measuring device in a safe place for your next use. You should not use a tablespoon or teaspoon as the dose measuring devices since it can result in an incorrect dose. If indicated on the product package, shake themedicinebefore use.

Talk to Your Doctor

Talk to your doctor if you develop new symptoms. Tell your doctor if conditions like weight loss, problems while swallowing, stomachpain,indigestion, vomiting (food or blood), blackstools, severediarrhea, severe liver problems and skin reaction occurs. If you have issues with the health of your liver, a low dose is required for the maintenance of inflammation of the food pipe (erosive esophagitis). You should consult with your doctor before stopping the use of Pepzol.

Older patients may see an increase in the incidence ofside-effectswith this medicine. As a result, a lower dose may be recommended for older patients.

Use in Children

Storage

You should storePepzol CapsuleStore Pepzol delayed-release capsules between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Store Pepzol delayed-release oral suspension at 25°C (77°F), permitted to 15–30°C (59–86°F), away from moisture, and away from light. Store themedicineaway from the reach of children andpets.

Medicines may be prescribed for uses other than those listed in the medicine guide. Do not usePepzol Capsulefor conditions for which it was not prescribed. Do not give Pepzol Capsule to other people who might have the same conditions or symptoms that you have. Self-medication may harm them.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if the time for the next dose is almost there, then skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule. Avoid taking a repeated dose to make up for a missed one.
