NextStep® 40 mg Tablets Esomeprazole 28 Tablets for GERD and Acid Reflux

NextStep® 40 mg Tablets contain esomeprazole 40 mg, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production.

By lowering acid levels in the stomach, NextStep® helps relieve heartburn, promote ulcer healing, and prevent acid damage to the esophagus. It is suitable for short term treatment as well as maintenance therapy under medical supervision.

Composition

Each tablet contains:

Esomeprazole 40 mg, as esomeprazole magnesium

Mechanism of Action

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, PPI.

It works by selectively blocking the hydrogen potassium ATPase enzyme system in the gastric parietal cells. This enzyme is responsible for the final step of acid production in the stomach.

By inhibiting this proton pump:

• Acid related irritation decreases
• Healing of ulcers and erosive esophagitis is promoted

Indications

NextStep® 40 mg Tablets are indicated for the management of :

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease, GERD
• Erosive esophagitis
• Gastric and duodenal ulcers
• Prevention of NSAID induced ulcers
• Part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication
• Zollinger Ellison syndrome

Dosage and Administration

The usual adult dose is:

40 mg once daily

Duration depends on the condition being treated. For erosive esophagitis, treatment typically lasts 4 to 8 weeks.

Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably before meals.

Always follow your doctor’s instructions.

Contraindications

Do not use NextStep® if you have:

• Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or other PPIs
• Known allergy to any component of the formulation

Warnings and Precautions

• Long term use may increase the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency
• Use cautiously in patients with severe liver impairment
• May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include:
