Desal® 40 mg Tablet Furosemide Diuretic for Edema and Hypertension

Desal® 40 mg Tablet contains furosemide 40 mg, a potent loop diuretic used to remove excess fluid from the body. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as edema associated with heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disorders.

Desal® also helps control high blood pressure by reducing fluid volume and decreasing the workload on the heart. It acts quickly and is widely used in both hospital and outpatient settings.

Mechanism of Action

Furosemide is a loop diuretic that works on the ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidneys.

It inhibits the sodium, potassium, and chloride co transport system. As a result, it increases the excretion of sodium, chloride, and water in urine.

This leads to:

  • Reduction of fluid accumulation
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Relief from swelling and shortness of breath

Indications

Desal® 40 mg Tablet is indicated for:

  • Swelling associated with congestive heart failure
  • Fluid accumulation related to liver cirrhosis
  • Water retention caused by kidney diseases, including nephrotic syndrome
  • Management of hypertension, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents
  • Acute pulmonary edema under medical supervision

Dosage and Administration

The dosage should be determined by a physician based on the patient’s condition.

Typical adult dose:
20 mg to 80 mg daily, adjusted according to response.

It is usually taken in the morning to avoid nocturnal urination.

Always follow your doctor’s instructions.

Contraindications

Do not use Desal® if you have:

  • Hypersensitivity to furosemide
  • Anuria
  • Severe electrolyte depletion
